| Modern, airy, deceptively spacious interior and garden; quiet leafy street close to all London summer action.The double sitting room is spacious yet comfy with 3-seater sofa, two easy and one reclining chairs, large-screen cable TV, DVD, Stereo Hi-Fi, bookshelves crammed with modern and classic reads for all ages, even a piano. From here pass through to a glass roofed dining area seating 10 then a step down into the large, fully equipped kitchen including double oven/grill and microwave, large fridge-freezer and dishwasher. Two double French windows open onto a vine-shaded dining patio and a long landscaped garden of trees, shrubs and flowering plants catching the sun almost all day; through an arbour is a secluded pond and sitting area which can be closed off from children. The garden is also viewed from the first floor veranda (another sun-bathing trap) accessed from one bedroom which features en-suite shower room. Landing leads to 2 more bedrooms and full modern family bathroom. The entrance to the Olympic Park, main venue of the London 2012 Olympic games, is just a 12-minute walk then 3-minute train ride (trains every 10 minutes), or a 12-minute bike ride, from the house. There you will also find Europe’s largest urban shopping centre, Westfield Stratford City: 237 top branded stores, 75 bars and restaurants, a 17-screen multiplex cinema, 14-lane bowling venue and the UK’s first Las Vegas-scale casino, Aspers. Stratford City is the most convenient point to go on to the other Olympic venues such as ExCel Exhibition Area, North Greenwich Arena, Greenwich Park and The Lea Valley White Water Centre. (Indeed, most of the venues are much more accessible from East London than the West.) Or take the Tube from there and in 20-30 minutes you’re in the centre of London. Go to its unparalleled West End shows and clubs, shop in Oxford Street and Mayfair, wander through galleries and museums like Tate Modern and the Royal Academy, and see its historic sites including Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Tower of London on the River Thames. The river itself is now a glorious lively place to wander: from the South Bank Centre embracing the National Theatre, Royal Festival Concert Hall, British Film Institute and Hayward Gallery, heading east takes you past Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Southwark Cathedral which nestles in the foodie heaven of Borough Market. Talking of which, even closer to our home you won’t want to miss the vibrant East End’s street markets and vintage shops round historic Spitalfields and Brick Lane with wares ranging from the glamorous to the gaudy and cheap – refuelling on the way from a huge array of ethnic food stalls, cafes and restaurants. Yet ours is quiet, tree-lined and neighbourly street. At the top are the Wanstead Flats, a great grassy expanse for walking, jogging , horse-riding, ball sports and wildlife spotting – the start of the ancient and glorious Epping Forest that reaches into deepest rural eastern England. Sit with a glass of good beer or wine at the front of our local pub, the Golden Fleece, and watch the sun set peacefully over the Flats. Even amid the bustle of Stratford City and the Olympic park, the old interlocking canals and river stretching north into Hertfordshire or south to the River Thames provide endless tranquil options for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. This brilliantly-connected home in a quiet neighbourhood has been restyled inside to make it a light-filled haven for family living and entertaining friends.
